Who this is for
Owners and operators of 3,000–80,000 DWT dry-bulk vessels on spot voyage charters; brokers who need a clean figure before negotiating; P&I correspondents and counsel who want the arithmetic checked independently.
For owners, operators and brokers on GENCON-type voyage charters who calculate laytime by hand and argue it by email. You send the Statement of Facts and the charter party terms; I send back a laytime statement, the demurrage or despatch figure, and the exact calculation input so anyone can replay it.
The Statement of Facts as PDF, email text or a photo of the agent's form, plus the laytime clauses: allowance, rate, SHINC/SHEX, NOR turn time, despatch terms. Use the form below or email.
NOR, laytime start, completion, and every interruption with a start and an end. No "minus eight hours" shortcuts. Unclear lines are flagged and asked, not guessed.
The calculation runs in an open-source engine pinned by hand-verified golden tests. Once on demurrage, always on demurrage; half despatch on WTS or ATS; reversible or per port.
An English PDF statement ready for the counterparty, the same figures in Excel, and the calculation input as JSON. Replay it in six months and it gives the same number.
| Deliverable | What it contains | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Laytime statement (PDF) | Port by port: laytime start, time used, interruptions deducted, demurrage start, days and amount. | Goes to the charterer or broker as is. |
| Working file (Excel) | The same timeline and figures in a sheet your office can annotate. | Fits the way the office already works. |
| Calculation basis (JSON) | Every input and rule the engine used, in one file. | When the counterparty disputes a Sunday, change one flag and both sides see what it is worth. |
| Open questions | Anything the SOF or the clause leaves ambiguous, listed with the two possible readings and their figures. | You decide the reading; the number follows. |
The statement is calculation support prepared from the documents you provide. It is not legal advice, and interpretation of charter party wording in a dispute remains yours or your counsel's. Time bars are your responsibility; tell me the date and I will prioritise.

Ten years at sea as a deck officer, the last as chief mate candidate; the statements I write are the ones I used to sign the SOF for. The engine behind them runs MarOps, a back-office system for small shipowners, and is published as open source so the arithmetic can be checked by anyone.
The form sends the details to my inbox; I reply from info@zdeck.tech within a few hours with where to send the SOF and the clauses. What you type goes to my inbox and my own lead list, nowhere else.
Prefer email? Write to info@zdeck.tech with the SOF attached and "Laytime" in the subject.
