Per grade, that is what the tanks should sound to. The difference between the calculated and the sounded figure is where an error in the log, a missed transfer or a bad sounding shows up — usually before anyone else notices.
A small difference is normal — trim, temperature, sounding error. Set the tolerance as a percentage of throughput and anything beyond it is flagged, so a real discrepancy stands out from the everyday noise.
